Security During Ramadan

Ramadan brings increased activity around the Masjid, especially during Taraweeh and late‑night prayers. To help keep everyone safe and maintain a peaceful environment, please follow these important guidelines:

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

  • Stay alert when arriving or leaving the Masjid, particularly after dark.
  • Report any unusual behaviour or suspicious activity to Masjid staff, volunteers, or security personnel.
  • If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and speak to a member of the team.

Keep Your Belongings Secure

  • Keep your phone, bags, and valuables with you at all times.
  • Do not leave items unattended in prayer halls, corridors, or shoe areas.
  • When parking, keep valuables out of sight.

Young People: Please Keep Noise to a Minimum

  • Young people and children are very welcome at both Balham Masjid & Tooting Islamic Centre, however, young attendees are kindly reminded to maintain absolute silence inside and outside the Masjid.
  • No gathering outside the Masjid after prayers — it disturbs neighbours and creates safety concerns.
  • Once prayers are completed, please leave the area promptly and peacefully.

Be Considerate of Our Neighbours

  • Do not block driveways, footpaths, or residential access while parking or waiting.
  • Keep conversation and movement quiet late at night.
  • Help keep the surrounding area clean and litter‑free.

Stay Vigilant When Travelling

  • Travel in groups where possible, especially during late‑night prayers.
  • Stick to well‑lit routes and keep children close and supervised.
  • Be mindful of busy public transport areas and safeguard your belongings.

Guidance on Donations & Fundraising

  • Be cautious of anyone asking for money inside or outside the Masjid.
  • Donations should only be given to recognised charities.
  • If someone claims to be collecting on behalf of a charity, you have the right to request official evidence or identification.
  • When in doubt, check with Masjid staff or a Management Committee member.
  • Only authorised charities are allocated official fundraising slots.
  • Impromptu or unauthorised fundraising is strictly not permitted, unless explicitly approved by a designated charity partner of Balham Masjid & Tooting Islamic Centre. The list of approved Charity Partners can be found here
