Eid Ul Fitr Salat will be on Wed 31st Aug 8am and 9am at Balham Mosque and 8.30am and 9.30am at Tooting Islamic centre.
It is a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to look for the crescent moon (Hilal) on 29th day of the lunar months and then to report the results, positive or negative.
According to the experts, the Hilal of Shawwal will not be visible on Mon 29 Aug (29 Ramadan 1432) in Saudi Arabia after sunset, even by telescopes (Moon age at sunset: 12.5 hrs, Lag: 4 mins, Alt: 0.6 deg). And will not be visible in Europe, Africa or Rest of the world on 29th Aug .
Sayyidina Ibn Umar relates from Nabi (saw) that there are 29 nights in a month, do not fast until you see it (the Hilal), if it is hidden from you then complete 30 days. (Sahih Bukhari p,306/ Sahih Muslim p,347)
Sayidina Abu Hurairah (ra) relates: The Prophet (saw) stated: 'The person who leaves a fast of Ramadhan without a valid Shariah excuse (being ill or on a journey), if he was to fast for his entire life, he cannot fulfil the loss of that single day of Ramadhan he missed.' (Jami Tirmidhi/ Masnad Ahmad/ Sahih Bukhari)
